Homemade Glycolic Acid Peel

Glycolic acid is the way to go for freckles, age spots, and fine wrinkles. A very effective glycolic acid peel can be made at home with fruits and sugar!

I've been doing a lot of salicylic acid peels lately (I'll create another post for those) to lighten some freckles and age spots and smooth some very fine wrinkles that have cropped up over the past few months. Salicylic acid works GREAT on acne, but is usually not the first choice for wrinkles or pigmentation issues.
Glycolic acid is not available as a raw material the same way salicylic acid is (SA can be bought in powder form from many reputable companies). You can purchase a peel that has glycolic acid in it in various proportions, but you cannot purchase glycolic acid as a discrete cosmetic ingredient as far as I can see.
SO I decided to make my own out of fruits! I used pineapple and papaya, as those are very high in glycolic acid. This recipe is enough for two treatments if made in a juicer (more if you use a blender). If you like, use the entire fruits and freeze whatever you don't use for later.

The ingredients (two treatments)

  • 1/4 cup chopped Papaya (unripe Papaya is best)
  • 1/4 cup chopped Pineapple
  • 1 tablespoon Honey

    How to make it

    • Juice or blend the fruit
    • Add the honey and stir well

      How to use it

      • Clean your face well
      • dry and tone (I use alcohol to tone because it prepares the skin to receive the mask)
      • smear the mask all over your face gently
      • add a few layers
      • wait 15-30 minutes
      • rinse with warm water
      • rinse with cool/cold water
      • pat dry
      • apply hemp oil or other natural moisturizer
That's it! You will feel a tingling sensation on your face. That's the enzymes working. You can repeat this mask every two weeks or so. You will begin to see a difference after 3 or 4 applications.
