I LOVE that these little fake shearling jackets were back in style for awhile. They are now showing up in thrift shops and I can buy them by the bushel.
This one is so cute. It's fitted, which is really nice. The fabric is not the greatest quality, and I think it really needed sprucing up. I decided to add a large patch of fabric to the back.
The fabric I chose is an antique northwestern Indian embroidered cotton. It has pomegranates and a spiral, looks like a suzani, and I love it.
Step 1
Find your shape. Cut a rough shape out of your fabric and pin it carefully to the area on the jacket that you want to cover, turning the edges under to fit.
Step 2
Outline your shape by tracing around the edges with a piece of chalk. This works really well!
Step 3
Cut your shape. Using your chalk lines as a guide, cut out your shape. Make sure to leave an inch or so all around the edges for a seam allowance.
Step 4
Pin the finished patch carefully to the jacket, folding the edges under as you go.
Step 5
Sew the patch to the jacket. I used a hem stitch.
Step 6
Admire your finished jacket and think about how awesome you are.
