Photo Shoot with Toxic Tears!

In trying to rebrand Miri, I have been very attracted to the concept of a journey. This journey could be through time and space, and could be facilitated or symbolized by textiles. Textiles connect us with our past, in that the production and use of textiles in prehistory was a HUGE big deal for us as a species. Textiles connect us through space, also, because they are an integral part of our individual cultures and we can share them with others throughout the world. By sharing textiles, we share ourselves.

I'd love to depict women of all ages and cultures sharing and enjoying these textiles, teaching and learning from each other.

With this concept in mind, I was trying to capture the excitement of a young person just getting ready to embark on her own journey into the wider world. This girl has that in her eyes! She is just starting to realize her own autonomy. So beautiful!

This session took place in a school playground and in her backyard.

Also, this was her very first shoot. She's good. And she has the most perfect alabaster skin I have ever seen.

I love this one. The domestic scene in the background provides both a reflection of and a contrast to her readiness to embark.

She's even more beautiful when she's showing her little brother the love.
