After working on some of these posts for the Textile as Multi-Tiered Cosmos series, I realized that I have surrounded myself with psychedelic textiles! Here's a textilic tour of my home.
The Living Room:
Panel screen re-draped in Tina Givens fabric. Entoptic images = nested and repeating diamonds and meanders turning into birds!
Framed ikats from Uzbekistan. Ikat is one of the oldest textile techniques in the world.
Couch with repeated damask print. A lot goes on in this room!
The Bathroom.
Water flows from the earth to the underneath/underworld. The place where water traverses this border has spiritual significance, a place where one can travel between the realms or communicate with beings from another realm. I think this is reflected by the ubiquitous presence of graffiti in public restrooms. Seriously.
Paisley shower curtain and a wrought iron railing fragment from a french quarter balcony.
Ikat scarves drying on the shower curtain rod. A constant!
And the Inner Sanctum.
Inside the cave.
Sari curtains. The pink one has block printed entoptic motifs!
Turkish kilim throw pillows with spirals, radials, meanders, repeated dots, etc.
The nook.
Framed ikat from Uzbekistan.
Animals meandering between the cosmic realms.
Is giclee print considered a textile?
More kilim pillows with spirals and other entoptic motifs. Also, there are no pilfered artifacts on that shelf there.
Kantha sari wall hanging with lotus wheels and winged horses. See this post for an interpretation. Also more kilim and a lovely teddy made by my mother.
My prized possession: a Turkish tribal rug with amazing spirals, radials, zigzags, dots, and other entoptic motifs. An entoptic utopia~~ Walking across the vortex~~~
