Featured Textile: Purple Tie-Dye Shawl

These bandhani scarves are just so exquisite.

Sheer, flowy, and perfect for spring and summer.

It's a super-classy bandana.

All of the beading, embroidery, and tie-dying was done by hand. Somebody sat there and did all of this BY HAND, people! Can you imagine?

The fabric is a sheer silk georgette, which is like chiffon but a tiny bit thicker.

Bandhani is a tie dyeing style traditionally practiced by rural village people in Gujarat, northwestern India. The word comes from bandha, bandhana, the Sanskrit word for tying; from this the Gujarati term bandhavun, to tie, is derived. Teeny tiny little knots are tied in the fabric. The fabric is then dipped into vats of dye and allowed to dry. Then the knots are removed, revealing intricate patterns on the finished textile.
