Featured Textile: Green and Brown Silk Sari

I listed a scarf this morning that I just had to share here.

This is created from one of the most beautiful saris I think I've ever seen. The pictures can't possibly do it justice.

The sari is pure silk. It is vintage and was created, worn, and loved in India.

What makes it so special?

Texture:

The texture of the silk is indescribable, but I'll try. I picked the sari out because of the colors. I wanted something for my shop with autumn greens, browns, and golds, even though, personally, I prefer bright colors. The pictures of this one looked fine. When it arrived, I was blown away by it, surprising myself. The silk is very very soft, with a tight weave. The drape is amazing. The subtle sheen and the drape are more like a heavy charmeuse or satin, although it is a fairly thin fabric. I would definitely call it luxurious.

Colors:

The colors are so beautiful. The green is a deep olive green. The browns, golds, and ivories are soft but very clear.

Design:

The design is impeccable. I mean that the print is clear and sharp. The scrolls, flowers, leaves, vines, and other shapes are just perfect. The proportion of the motifs on the pallu and those on the rest of the sari is interesting. The motifs on the pallu are smaller than what you normally see, more consistent with the size of the motifs on the rest of the piece. It's interesting and quite stunning.
